Fort Wayne International Airport is eight miles South of Fort Wayne, in Allen County, Indiana, United States. It is owned and operated by the Fort Wayne-Allen County Airport Authority and co-located at the airport is the 122nd Fighter Wing/163rd Fighter Squadron (FS) of the Indiana Air National Guard operating A-10C "Thunderbolts". The squadron nicknamed the "Blacksnakes" was activated on the 1st January 1943 as the 365 FS, then the unit was re-designated the 163rd FS and assigned to the Indiana ANG in May of 1946.
Preserved in an airpark by the main gate are aircraft types once operated by the unit and some are mounted quite dramatically which make for some interesting photography. The airpark is free to enter and when you are finished you may want to head back to the airport where you may see the squadrons A-10s in action.
