Gatwick Aviation Museum - United Kingdom

Located just North and West to the Gatwick runway, is the Gatwick Aviation Museum, on Lowfield Heath Road. Follow the signs off the A23 to Charlwood Village and then turn left.

The theme of the museum is Post WWII to Cold War, along with the history of Gatwick Airport during war and peace and there is a display of engines from pistons to turbofans for the engineering buffs to drool over too.

Since the death of its founder, Peter Vallance, the museum he established has been slimmed down to bring most exhibits under cover in a new building with a reception and shop area. Another building is opening this year to enable the volunteer team to better renovate the exhibits and provide space for conferences etc. The friendly, energetic and knowledgeable helpers also hold open cockpit and engine run days during the year, and details of events can be found on their Facebook page, as can opening times (usually Fridays and weekends) and suggested entry donation costs.
Well worth a visit when your passing.
