Having gone to this museum many years ago when they had only 6 aircraft, i was well overdue another visit. The museum at that time was on base and because of security concerns it has now been moved to a location outside the South East gate at 2890 Rushmoor Dr. The museum now called the South Dakota Air And Space Museum now boasts a collection of up to 30 aircraft as well as a selection of missiles, all presented in a well laid out display area.

Inside the museum are 3 aircraft which cannot be seen when the museum is closed. There is a well stocked gift shop, and there are numerous guides to answer any questions whilst walking around the exhibits.

Museum hours are, off season Mon-Sat 09.00am to 16.30pm, peak season hours are 08.30am to 18.00pm. Also the museum offers limited tours of Ellsworth AFB and it's missile silos but see the museum website for entry conditions. If your are ever in South Dakota visiting the black hills, make a point of visiting the museum, it will be well worth your time.
