Situated on the shores of Corpus Christi Bay, 6 miles South East of Corpus Christi town in Texas lies the Naval Air Station (NAS) bearing the same name. NAS Corpus Christi was commissioned in March 1941 and the first training flights started in May 1941. The current unit stationed at the base is Training Air Wing 4 (TAW-4) which consists of 4 squadrons VT-27 (Boomers) and VT-28 (Rangers) which operate the T-6C "Texan II". The other two squadrons VT-31 (Wise Owls) which operate the T-44 and VT-35 (Stingrays) which until recently operated the TC-12B. Other units at the base are the US Customs and Border Protection and also the Corpus Christi Army Depot which is the largest helicopter repair facility in the world.
Located within the base and preserved at two locations are 4 aircraft which reflect on the bases training history. All are well presented and afford good photographic opportunities. To access the base to photograph their historical aircraft, permission will be required from the base Public Affairs Office (PAO) at least 30 days before your intended visit.
