Situated about an hour's drive South from Corpus Christi and 3 miles East of Kingsville town is the Naval Air Station (NAS) that bare's the same name. NAS Kingsville is the current home to the Training Air Wing no2 (TAW-2) and their based T-45A/C "Goshawks" from VT-21 (Red Hawks) and VT-22 (Golden Eagles). Founded in 1942 as Naval Auxiliary Air Station (NAAS) Kingsville, it served nearby NAS Corpus Christi as an auxiliary field, aiding in training many of the USN pilots for World War II. In 1968, the airfield was redesignated as NAS Kingsville and continued flight training operations to present day.
Like any military base, it has its own collection of gate guards and these are represented by training types that were once a common site flying in the area. Some can be seen from outside but to get up close for photography permission from the base PAO or an escort onto base is required.
