The largest aircraft collection in Southern Norway, with roughly 40 military planes and helicopters of the Royal Norwegian Air Force, from 1912 up to present day. 20 more aircraft were transferred further north to the new museum at Bodo in 1994.
Many of the planes are unique, among the aircraft on display are Norway's first airplane, rare exhibits like the Northrop NP.3B, He-111 and Ju-88, and all the different jets that the Norwegian Air Force used during the Cold War. The museum also shows historical uniforms, models, objects, engines, photo montages and films.
Normal opening 12.00 - 16.00 Sat- Sun, groups can tour the museum outside of regular opening hours – contact booking@flysamlingen.no to make an appointment.
There is a shop with books, magazines, model kits and souvenirs, and a café with hot and cold drinks, waffles, hot dogs and other snacks.
Transportation
Conveniently Norwegian fly from Gatwick to the airport, then take shuttle bus (3 per hour) S33 from platform 39. A visit can be done by a day return from Gatwick with time to spare for a coffee, as I did. If you are coming by car, there is free parking next to the museum.
