USAF Armament Museum Eglin AFB Florida 2018
2 miles to the south of Valparaiso FL, on Highway 85 and re-opened with a new museum building in 1986, containing 4 aircraft and a selection of rockets, guns, bombs etc. This free to enter museum (donations welcome) is normally open Mon- Sat 09.30 – 16.30.
About 30 other aircraft from WW2 to the present, are exhibited in the free to roam parkland surrounding the museum and car parking area. Not to be missed (inside) are a “MOAB” (Mother Of All Bombs) and a “Bunker Buster” and outside the is the sole “long-tailed” and prehensile Lockheed SR-71A Blackbird.
Well worth a visit whilst in the Florida panhandle and can just be combined with the Naval museum at Pensacola, but only if you can get your skates on. A far better alternative may be a long weekend possibly reaching to Battleship Park in Mobile AL, or Warner Robins, GA. Hell just pick up a copy of USA MOOS from Mach III and do a week travelling around, there’s so much ‘stuff’ around and about.
A big thumbs up from yours truly.
