Photo Report - 28th BW Ellsworth AFB SD - 2015

The 28th BW at Ellsworth AFB, Rapid City, South Dakota is home to two squadrons of B-1B "Lancer" supersonic bombers, with a total of 28 jets between both units.


28th Operations Group commands three squadrons:


28th Operations Support Squadron (provide combat ready B-1B crews and ground support)


34th Bomb Squadron known as the "Thunderbirds"


37th Bomb Squadron known as the "Tigers"


June 29th 1985 saw the B-1B "Lancer" enter service at Dyess AFB, Texas with the first bomber touching down on the Texas Air Base. In June 2015 the type celebrated three decades of service with the USAF and the Air Combat Command (ACC).
